Toyosu area spanning three Yurikamome stations, namely Toyosu, Shin-toyosu, and Shijo-mae areas. Located at the southern end of Koto Ward, land here was formed in a reclamation project launched in the late Taisho period. Until it was officially named in 1937, it was called by numbers such as reclaimed land No. 5. The name Toyosu means "rich land" in the hope of future growth.

After World War II, municipal housing was constructed in the 1940s, gradually building up the infrastructure of the town. In addition, it contributed to the reconstruction of the Japanese economy as an energy base and reached its peak as a special pier for the power, gas, steel and coal industries which were the core industries of the time, from 1955 to 1965.

The Toyosu Harumi Development Plan was revised in 1997, and the area is rapidly growing as a new area combining various functions such as condominiums, office buildings, shopping malls, and cultural facilities. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Toyosu 1-3 Chome District Urban Development Policy, the new urban area is expected to accommodate about 22,000 residents and around 33,000 work population.

The development of the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market "Toyosu" Market, which will be relocated from Tsukiji Market to the Tokyo Metropolitan Area with the aim of opening the venue on November 7, 2016, is moving forward at a rapid pace, and high hopes are placed from various aspects, such as its role as a new core market in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

When heading from Ariake-tennis-no-mori Station to Shijo-mae Station, the scenary is one of a cluster of buildings in the Harumi Futo and Katsudoki directions, followed by those in the Toyosu area.
