About the fare when traveling to Shimbashi or Toyosu stations to purchase a commuter pass

If passengers wish to purchase commuter passes from stations that do not issue them, the following procedure will occur. Please be aware that we are not able to provide such procedures at stations that are only equipped with automatic commuter pass issuing machines (Odaiba-kaihinkoen Station, Ariake Station).

For Outbound Journeys
  1. Please purchase a regular one-way passenger ticket to a station selling commuter passes (Shimbashi and Toyosu stations).
  2. Upon arrival at a commuter pass issuing station, do not exit the ticket gate. Please proceed to the station office (station master office) to request the purchase of a commuter pass.
  3. At the time of purchasing a commuter pass at the commuter pass issuing counter, the previously purchased regular one-way passenger ticket will be refunded.
For Return Journeys
  1. If a return passenger ticket is required, we will provide a ticket to the station at which you boarded (with a certificate of purchase of a commuter pass) from the commuter pass issuing counter upon request.
※However, please use the purchased commuter pass where possible.

Commuter passes can be purchased according to the route between the nearest station to your school and that of your residence.
Students may not designate the nearest station to their school of their own accord.
A revised document and the official seal of your school representative is required if the station nearest your residence changes due to moving address.
If a separate route is required for club activities, preparatory schools, crams schools, etc., such routes are ineligible for school commuter passes. Please request a work commuter pass.

How to Purchase

If you wish to purchase a new school commuter pass, please bring a school commute certificate issued by your school or a student ID card valid as a school commute certificate and purchase the pass from a member of station staff at a issuing office.
However, you do not need a school commute certificate, etc. when purchasing a new pass within the same school year provided that you present your old school commuter pass.
(You will need a school commute certificate, etc. when the commute route changes or if the expiration date of the commuter pass exceeds April 30th.)

Disclaimers

Traveling past destination, changing routes, returning to boarding station after traveling whole return journey without stopping off at any station

If a passenger uses a different route than the one displayed on the ticket, the regular passenger fare for the route actually traveled will be charged.
If you need to change the route of your commuter pass, please request a commuter pass with the new route in advance.
If requesting a new commuter pass from a different railway company, please take the "Route Change" refund certificate for your unneeded commuter pass. The refund will be issued after the commuter passenger fare corresponding to the number of 10-day periods used since the start of the validity period and the day of the "Route Change" refund application (time periods of less than 10 days will be counted as a 10-day period) and a handling fee of \220 yen has been deducted.
Furthermore, the commuter pass route before and after the change is limited to that covered by Yurikamome Line.
※1 10-day period = 10 calendar days. However, 1 month = 3 10-day periods.

Refunds

Provided that they are within the validity period, refunds can be claimed for commuter passes that are no longer needed, after deducting the corresponding commuter pass fare for the number of months that have been used (days totaling less than 1 month will be rounded up to 1 month) and a handling fee of \220. Please bring documentation to confirm the identity of the commuter pass holder (such as a driver's license, passport, insurance card, student ID card, etc.) when claiming a refund.

Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - No. of months Commuter passenger fare used amount - \220 handling fee

Example: When a commuter pass with a 6-month validity period is used for 1 month and 1 day (1 day is calculated as 1 month, and so the number of months used is counted as 2 months.)
Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (1 month fare × 2) - handling fee

※ Reference: Method of calculating refunds for number of months used for 6-month commuter passes

Number of Months Used Method for Calculating Refunds
1 Month Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (1 month fare + handling fee)
2 Months Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (1 month fare × 2 + handling fee)
3 Months Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (3 month fare + handling fee)
4 Months Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (3 month fare + 1 month fare + handling fee)
5 Months Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (3 month fare + 1 month fare × 2 + handling fee)

※If the commuter pass has been used for a period of less than 7 days since the start of the validity period, the refund will be calculated according to the method below.
Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (regular round trip fare based on the route for which the pass was used × number of days used) - \220 handling fee

※In cases where a new type of pass or route is requested, fare rates are calculated according to units of 10 days, and the fare equivalent to the number of 10-day periods used and a handling fee will be deducted to calculate refund amount (periods of less than 10 days are counted as a 10-day period).
The 10-day period fare is the amount equivalent to the daily fare multiplied by 10. Refunds are given according to the calculation method in ① and ② below.

  1. ① Daily fare amount = Commuter pass cost ÷ number of days
The number of days are: 1 month: 30 days, 3 months: 90 days, 6 months: 180 days. Fractions are rounded up to the nearest \1 unit.
  2. ② Refund amount = Commuter pass cost - (daily fare amount × 10 days × number of 10-day periods used) - \220 handling fee
